Tustin & Lake Forest

Built in Lake Forest, installed in Tustin

Tustin is two different shutter conversations in one zip code. Old Town Tustin, with its historic district along El Camino Real and the bungalows that still have original 1920s and 1930s frames, asks for traditional plantation shutters with a frame profile that matches existing trim. The wood frames in these homes have moved over a century of seasonal humidity, so panels need to be milled to the actual opening, not the nominal opening.

Tustin Ranch and Columbus Square are the opposite. Newer-build floor plans, master-planned communities, large consistent openings, and the same basswood plantation shutter in white that suits the Irvine Ranch homes a few miles south. The 3.5-inch and 4.5-inch louver combinations are the most-asked-for here.

Most of our Tustin work is referral-based. A neighbor on Yorba Street had us in for a kitchen and dining room, and then a neighbor down the block calls a week later. We try to keep the install crew the same across a neighborhood when we can, because the same kind of finish quirks come up.

Tustin is 15 minutes from our Lake Forest factory on the 5. For most addresses, a measurement-day appointment in the morning and an install-day appointment in the afternoon can happen in the same week once material is ready.

Common questions

Can you do shutters for an Old Town Tustin historic home?

Yes. These homes need panels milled to the actual opening (the original frames have moved with time) and frame profiles that match existing trim. We mill to the actual frame, not the nominal size. Real basswood is the right material for these interior rooms.

What's typical for Tustin Ranch homes?

Basswood plantation in white, 3.5-inch or 4.5-inch louver, standard detail frame. Tustin Ranch floor plans are some of our most consistent installs and we know the trim profiles well.
