Laguna Niguel & Lake Forest

Built in Lake Forest, installed in Laguna Niguel

Dave Harris, co-founder of Golden West Shutters, has lived in Laguna Niguel for over thirty years. Most of our crew has installed in the same neighborhoods he raised his family in: Marina Hills, Bear Brand Ranch, Niguel Summit, the Monarch Point hillside lots, and the San Joaquin Hills homes built by S&S Homes in the 1990s. We did over 150 installations in Marina Hills alone, working with Taylor Morrison while the community was still being built out.

The LN homes that come to us are usually a few generations into ownership: bought new from Taylor Morrison, Lennar, S&S, Standard Pacific, or Richmond American twenty or thirty years ago, and now ready for their second or third round of window treatments. The original blinds and vertical sliders are showing their age. Wood plantation shutters are the natural next step, and for the hillside homes with strong afternoon exposure, our Polylux hybrid is the most-recommended option.

A few things specific to Laguna Niguel: the Kite Hill and Beacon Hill homes tend to have unusual ceiling-height transitions in the front rooms, so the shutter heights are not consistent floor to floor. Bear Brand Ranch has more arched openings than the average MV or Aliso Viejo neighborhood. The country-club homes near El Niguel have French doors with cutouts that require milled panels, not stock. We've been making them for thirty-five years.

Common questions

Has your team really been working in Laguna Niguel since the 1990s?

Yes. Dave Harris, one of our co-founders, has lived in Laguna Niguel for over thirty years and his kids went through the local schools. We installed alongside Taylor Morrison while Marina Hills was being built, and we still have the original orders on file. There are homes in Marina Hills and San Joaquin Hills where our shutters are in their third decade of daily operation.

Do you work with the country-club homes near El Niguel?

Yes. The country-club residences are some of our most regular work. The French-door cutouts and the over-height entry openings that show up in these floor plans are exactly what our custom mill was built for. We measure the actual opening, mill to it, and the panel seats flush.
